open end air element

i was looking at putting an open end air filter on my engine and was wondering what specifications it had to be. thanks

I like the 14X3, and the opening has to bet 5 1/8", it should be a non-drop, so you can get rid of the spacer ring

Most people just go with a 14"(wide) by 3"(tall) open element, since it's the most common. The opening/flange for the carb/TBI should be 5 1/8" (this is also the most common, and it works perfectly). You can go with a non-drop (flat on the bottom) or a drop-base (drops the filter below the mounting flange anywhere from 1/2" to 1 1/2"). Most open elements at auto parts stores or online stores will meet all of these requirements.
