they have exactly the same ports. They are the same casting, only one is perimiter style, one is centerbolt.

Speking as someone who has done the swap you are talking about, get the 081's. I got the 416's and wish I had gotten the 081's. The 416's don't mate up nice to the intake. It will require some drilling out the four center bolt holes on the intake. It's doable but if you can get the 081 your much better off.

That depends on your intake, not everyone is going to prefer the 081s.

well that's true. I was assuming that it would be an intake of similar bolt pattern. But if the intake is also changing, then get the one that will fit it best.

I have 416 heads and just did the intake swap to an edelbrock intake. The usual ovaling out the 4 center bolt holes on the Edelbrock intake will not work. Don't do it!!! The plenum on the Edelbrock is a lot wider than the stock one and the center bolts can not lay back far enough to make it to the holes. What we did (this was James'[90_WS6_Formula] idea) was take a piece of screws all and cut it into about 8 inch (approx length) lengths and then screw it into the head and then bend it up to the proper angle. James actually did it with a blow torch while the 8 inch pieces were off the car. But it worked like a charm. The intake needed no boring out on the center bolt holes. I would recommend doing this to anyone who wanted to use the 416 heads and the Edelbrock intake.

can anyone reccomend an intake that can be used with tbi either a tbi intake or with an adapter plate that will work with the 416 heads.

any manifold that is designed for 86 or earlier SBC's will work with the 416s.

I am rather fond of single planes with and adaptor.

but I am a little bias.
