Causes for Low Fuel Pressure?

Hey guys,

I am currently diagnosing a problem with my 305TBI Camaro. I am starting to think the car is being starved of fuel. I am putting a new fuel filter in it tomorrow(If it doesnt snow.) But I would like to know what other causes are there for low fuel pressure.

Thanks,
Mark B

Your fuel pump could be dying. They tend to die in these TBI cars pretty easily and aren't very strong to begin with. Might want to get a FP gauge so you can see what your pressure is at.

I agree. They can hang on for dear life and confuse you while you try to diagnose a fuel problem. When my pump died it lingered on at 4psi which was just enough to make a nice cone shape fuel pattern out of the injectors but not enough to keep the motor from spitting and chugging and dying. I would look into a Walbro unit so that you will never have to upgrade the pump no matter what set-up you go with.

Have also seen the hose that attaches the pump to sending unit in tank go bad (they get soft) and cause low pressure. Might as well replace the pump while you are in there.

Where can I get one of those Walbro pumps? And how much do they cost?

I'd go for the 190 pump.

The 190 pump doesnt say its for high pressure use? Will it work with my new TPI motor? Or should I go with the 255 High Pressure one? Id rather pay the extra $30 now then have to do this fix again!

by high pressure, they mean REALLY high pressure.. like 100psi plus for boosted apps....

the 190 is a EFI pump that will work great for you. i have a 225 (not high pressure) but i wouldnt reccomend it for the TBI cars... simply because the regulator is right on the edge of not being able to return fuel back quick enough.
