EGR Delete question

I just installed a 5.7 TBI in my 92 RS and am currently NOT running an EGR valve or EGR solenoid on it. Has anyone else deleted their EGR system, and if so, did you encounter any adverse effects?

You need to remove it from the chip to do it correctly. EGR is actually a good thing. You can certanly run without it but chances are you will get a constant SES light. You will need to do chip work to get that 350 to run so you can just fix it then.

By the way, welcome aboard

The computer will remove fuel via the bpw constant and add a few more degrees when the non-existant egr is active. This can lead to possible detonation since the exaust from the egr not only cools the mixture, but is also fuel for combustion. Without it, you can be lean with extra timing, which is a good recipie for having detonation.

To tune it out, you disable the egr so no extra timing is added/fuel removed and then you tweak the fuel/spark tables to suit your taste.

Great way to get detonation at part throttle. If you pull back the timing a few degrees to get rid of it the engine runs poorly @ anything but cruise and gets terrible gas mileage. All I was missing was the EGR valve. As long as I was driving it hard, no check engine light. If I just cruised along at 60-70 the light would come on after about 5 minutes.
