Yet another idea for CAI

I was thinking of trying this with a 83 T/A power bulge hood and fab'ing the duct work from 20ga. sheet metal. Would it have any effect ? Suggestions ? Opinions ?

That is actually not that bad. Providing that you have a hood scoop that could be pretty slick.

That is awsome. I been trying to think of something like that but could never really get a good idea. If you don't mind me asking how do you plan on mounting it to your hood. How is clearence around the coil, distributor and those type of things that are mounted or close to the airfilter. Keep up the good work.

I'm starting with a power bulge hood from an 83 T/A. It already has all the duct work in place and I plan to just screw the new bonnet in place of the old ducting. Check out what the CFI ducting looks like.
Unlike the plastic version I was going to fab the bonnet from 20 ga. so it would just slip over the open element.
It might increase the total diameter by 1/2" or so, and would come down flush with the bottom of the aircleaner.

I have a 4" Harwood cowl hood. Do you think I could attach a piece of sheetmetal to the hood and just cut out a hole for the filter to pop through. I have a 4" filter which just about hit's the top of the hood and starts just below were the actual cowl part of the hood begins. I think it will draw more cooler air then just the open cowl itself since it is still really exposed to the engine bay.

So, wait, do you have an IROC or do you have an RS? If it's an IROC, your not going to be able to do this period...

Why does it matter if it is a IROC or RS. I have a tbi with an open element.

The base engine for the 88 IROC-Z was the 305 TBI.
