Shes Alive..........Sorta

88 Camaro SC formally 305 Tbi

Specs: 350 .040 over, World SR Torquer Heads, ZZ4 Cam, Holley Projection Intake & Holley 670 TBI. TBIChips.com Chip

Well I got my motor to run....kinda. At first we couldn't get it to start, it was backfiring but we found out the dizzy was one tooth off. It will start up great but idles rough. With the est plugged in my timing is advanced to about 30 degrees at idle . Could this be right? I have a 350 balancer on there with the timing tab at about the 2:00 position. Also Im hearing a weird noise coming from my balancer . It sounds like some kind of whirling noise to describe it. I hear it with the belt off because ive got a bent water pump pulley(my fault I think) and a cracked power steering pulley(was fine before the swap I think). Haven't had a chance to mess with my base timing because of the pulley issue. Im just worried about that noise from the front of the engine.

Assuming you have the right balancer for use with the old style pointer, 30 degrees will be a little too much at idle. Probably something like 20-25 degrees of overall advance would be more appropriate at idle
