When ported the TPI heads can make a nice difference. You would want to put in a cam that matches them though. It would be pointless to do all that work and leave the stock cam in there. Provided you do the necessary tuning, leave your cat in place, you shouldn't have to worry about emissions.

a nice cheap cam that makes a differance with 305 tpi heads wold be an l98 cam but you will definitly need to get into chip tuning when you get into cam and head swaps.....

They are listed as 58cc. Most people CC them are around 53 to 59cc.

I did the L98 cam and wish I had done the LT1 cam. Just make sure your springs can handle the lift of the LT1 cam. If you keep your rockers stock I think you'll be ok (check me on that Shifty).

If you want to do an L98 cam make sure you get one from 89-90. They look like they have the best specs. The 91-92 looks good also. The cam specs can be found on the Thirdgen tech data page. Stay away from the 87 L98 cam. It is only marginally bigger than the 305 cam.

Here is the data from the tech data page

1987 cam specs
(LB9/ L98) 14093643* .404 .415 202 207 114.5 (115/-114)

1988-1989
(L98) 10066049* .415 .430 207 213 117.0 (116/-118)

1990-1992
(L98) 10111773* .413 .428 202 207 114.5 (116/-116)

I stand corrected on one thing. It's 88-89 that was the biggest cam, not 89-90.

You are correct. However, it is always a good idea to replace your valve springs when doing a cam swap. It is not worth the valvetrian instability and weakness to stick with the stockers.
