Just installed an Edelbrock open element...

I got everything installed just right, and I was amazed on how different it sounds. I thought it'd be a little different, but it sounds awesome. I just took the PCV filter and used a wire wrap to hold it down so it isn't flopping around. And I did the same with the vaccuum line. I got all the info from this site on how to do it right. Thanks everyone.

Don't worry, I can feel a difference too. I feel it more so in the 2-3000 range.

Hey that sounds great! It always feels great to put your first mod on your car. Now you can plan and move on to something else

I'm thinking about eventually adding a better exhaust system. How long does it take to take the old one out and add the new one. It'd probably be a cat-back system.

I love mine too, considering that I am sitting on top of the engine basically. Nothing like the big woooosh at WOT. I like hearing my open air and flowmasters so much that around town I get crummy mileage because I want to hear it out of every light.

That's my fear when I add a new exhaust. Premium gas is so damn expensive nowadays that I never go over 2500 RPM on the way to work anymore. Maybe I need to contact Bub-Rub.

Wooo WOOOOO!

Lol, I love seeing peoples posts about the open element being their first mod. My VERY FIRST post is now the open element sticky at the top of this board. Here in AZ, having an open element is actually bad for performance, but I could care less. It just sounds too friggin cool

How is having an open element in Arizona bad for performance?

I live in California, so you have me concerned.

I'm guessing too much hot air.

Bingo. In the summer it can EASILY top 115* here, and combine that with already hot underhood temps, not exactly the most ideal setup.

If this is you're first swap, be ready for some pretty butchered up fingers and knuckles. Ahh, the scars of love...

I wish I could share with you guys with my open element joys too -- but with the open element in place of my stock intake I saw zero gain on the dyno, and identical times down the 1/4 mile. About the only difference I did notice was IAT temps in the range of 150 and up with the open el as opposed to about 100 with the snorkel while staging. But I'll agree the woooooshing air does sound exotic.

Could it be I see no difference becuase I've chaged Max IAC Steps from 80 to 160 ? Doesn't quite make sense -- and I know my 355 combo should need more air than it did in its stock 305 form. I'm jealous guys, wish it made a difference for me.

yup, not to mention in addition to the hot a$$ weather here in PHX, we also have desert on both sides, so quite a bit of dirt finds its way underhood... i have cleaned my K&N once a month since ive been out here... it gets EXTREMELY dirty... but you cant contend with the sound of a motor that can actually breathe....
