i got a 91 tbi rs

last night i was working on my car at my Friends shop. his dad is all hotrod expect and stuff. so anyways he was talking bout flipping my carb cap upside down and we did it. is that good or bad. it preforms way better then it did. someone help me out please

I used to do that with my dad's '69 Impala.

If the air cleaner has a small snorkel that restricts flow, then it will "help" the car run better. The only "bad" thing it does is bypass the thermovac system, which may cause some cold driveability issues.

A lot of guys run open element air cleaners with TBI. A better choice is to remove the snorkel restriction by adding another snorkel with an air hose run to a cool air source.

(And, since this isn't a carb situation, moving to the TBI forum...)

Five basically nailed it on the head. It is an old hot rod trick to flip the lid. You are not hurting anything by doing it but you may want to look into a custom intake and or a cheap open element.

if you have a four barrel.....when you hammer it, you can hear them all open up...some kind of super vacuum noise! (just like my X ride...the delta 88)
