TBI to CARB?
has anyone with a 305TBI went to a carb setup? Is there any performance increase at all?...can somone explain why carb might be better than TBI...can I buy a new carb setup for my 305TBI or would I have to look at pulling one from an older car?

You can buy a carb and non-CC HEI dist., but it could cost quite a bit. More then anything else, the thing that will cause the carb to make more power on a tbi is the fact that it wont be pig rich at WOT and the HEI will have a better timing curve then what the stock ecm gives. The carb will, however, have a hard time passing emmisions, be much more likely to turn your cat into a solid ceramic plug, and cost alot.
For less then a $100, you can buy a programmer and de-smog your present tbi ecm. There are piles of things you can do that will make a world of difference in how the car runs.

www.moates.net. The flash 'n burn will be the min youll need to get started. Ideally the flash and burn + the G2 adapter with flashrom chips is what you want since the stock UVEPROM are difficult to deal with. The other burner thats available is the PPII from xtronics. I have it and it works very well, but software updates are a royal pain in the *** with those guys, so I wouldnt recommend it, or not at least untill they (Karl, I believe) change their update policies.

On the software side tunerpro will get you going for nothing. One of the users here is kind enough to supply us with freeware (well, almost) so you dont have to pay another 80+ dollars for tunercats (its still my favorite, actually). There are also a slew of ECU's and other def files floating around for the tbi ecms.

Noticed you have a 8063 ecm like I used to have before I carved it up. There arnt many ecus available for that one. I made one way back when. It will get you going, but theres alot of extraneous stuff in there as well as some errors. If push comes to shove, I can make a stripped down only what you need version of it. I also hac'd that one as well. The nearly fully commented source code for the 8063 is also on that site. Not that itll mean much to you now, but in the future itll come in handy if you want to dig a little deeper into the efi.
