Removing charcole container?

I just read on the "V6" board about someone wanted to remove the charcole container....someone replied and said that it could be removed if he used a vented gas cap...is this true?...is there any problems with doing this? thanks

Yes, it's true, you can delete the charcoal canister if you really want to. The main problem is that your emissions will be higher, so if you live in a state with emissions testing you may have problems getting the car to pass.

There is really no point in getting rid of it though, it's not like it's robbing any horsepower or anything like that.

its easy there are like 2 bolts and a vacuum line. put a plug on the vacuum line and unbolt the bolts and pull it out.

I was just looking at that the other day thinking of figuring out how to take it out. I am just trying to neatin up my engine bay. I don't have emissions in florida and well just getting rid of it would be cool.

Yeah I noticed that my cruise control cable either goes into it or connects to it some how. If I take out the canister will I lose my cruise control? Just wondering.

Why not just get new OE resevoirs so they are not busted eyesores? They are suprisingly cheap and you won't have to delete anything to make them fit. Emissions were not installed to pi*s off the consumer, they were installed to serve a functional purpose. I'm actually looking for a canister to put on my car to replace the one previously removed.

That's the vacuum reserve canister. It holds vacuum for the the HVAC doors and cruise control. It's usually referred to as the "orb of power" on the boards.

The charcoal canister is on the other side of the car. It's located pretty much right in front of the windshield washer fluid reservoir. It's just a large black canister with one 2-wire connector and 2 vacuum lines coming out of it.

Instead of deleting it, you could always just relocate it. It's really not all that hard.

pressure needed???

okay, ive just been informed that i cannot do this. i was told that since it is fuel injected, there needs to be a certain amount of pressure build-up in the tank. and with a constant ventalation this pressure could not be obtained.

i know there is some sort of valve between the canister and the line to the tank. would keeping this valve allow this "needed pressure" to build?

AND is this "needed pressure" theory true?
