tbi to carb?
i was just wondering if it would be hard/ worth while to switch to a carb. i know that you can tune a carb better than a tbi unit. any ideas?

Advantages: Its a mechanical system with many fewer parameters that you can adjust so if you like that sort of thing itll be easier to work with.
Disadvantages: Not as much adjustability, not as much compensation for changing temps, not emmissions compliant, etc. Oh, and itll set you back quite a bit for a new carb and non-CC dist.
Carbs are way past their prime. If you where to swap, some other form of EFI instead would make much more sense.

Easier yes, better deffinatly no. TBI offers all the advantages of fuel injection that a carb can't touch. Fuel mileage is better, throttle responce is usually better, diagnostic abilities with a scanner or a paper clip, and ease of cold starts. The reason why people say TBI suck is because they never tried to learn the system. You can't throw parts at it and expect it to be happy. You have to tune it just like you do a carb. Instead of jettings and a scredriver you use a laptop and a PROM eraser/burner. IT takes longer to learn but it is well worth the efforts. If your car is daily driven I wouldn't look to a carb set-up.

i would have to say the biggest reason to swap over to carbs would be if you wanted to make LOTS of power for cheap! to get a TBI unit to flow as much as some carbs takes bunches of $$ and your still very restricted. carbs have many more intake manifolds to work with and even though there is an adapter for the tbi to carb maniflod you still wont make the power. however if you are just wishing to keep stock internals.....keep the tbi and buy some cheap addons and tune it....unless your prepared to go all out dont even bother swapping to a carb
