wire to disconnect for timing?

wire to disconnect for timing?

can someone please show me a picture of the "wire" that needs to be disconnected before the timing is checked? I've heard about it for a while now, but i still don't know what wire it is...thanks

alright shifty...I'll check it out now thanks for thew pic...its funny because I've seen that wire many times on my car and i never knew what is purpuse was... Shifty, you said that most LT1 cams like to have around 8* timing...is that what you run on your car?

That is to get the car to run with the stock chip. Once you get into chip work and get the car running you can do whatever you want with the timing. You will need at least 8° to 10° of base to get your car to run. It will surge, sputter, and shake but it should not stall. As soon as you start your car you will see how important chip work is.

I am currently looking into chip work for my 93 pickup. What can you recommend I get to do this work I am a shade tree mechanic I do, do computer repair for a living but for cars I haven't gotten into it I would love to but not sure were to start.
I didn't mean to switch topic I have been toying with the idea. You all have inspired me to want to tinker with burning new eproms.
