more lift?

How can I make it so the stock heads will take more lift? I'd love to run a CC304 but I think thats a bit crazy for these heads. So what about a 96 Z28 Cam with 1.6 rockers(~.477int//.490exh)?

An LT1 cam with 1.6 rr will be fine for the stock heads. It is always wise to measure though. Stock castings range from .460" to .480" lift. You would need to have the guides cut down to run higher lift cams. At that point you would want to install screw in studs to prevent the pushed in ones from pulling out with higher lift cams. And from there you would want to install larger valves and do some port work. Basically, if you want to run a larger cam with high lift you should start with different heads.

Should I just go 1.5 rockers, the f-body lt1 cam and leave it at that? I'm not sure how big of a difference that extra .01 makes as far as performance goes. And am I really going to have to do that for that little bit of extra lift?

1.5 to 1.6 rockers has been one of the easiest cheaper performance gains on L03 engines. I am sure it would do the same for your L05.

On a stock cam yes... I'm talking on top of an LT1 cam, would it be worth the trouble? If I were to stick with the stock cam I'm sure I wouldn't have the slightest problem running 1.6 rockers.

Well it ups the lift more on both intake and exhaust.

Just do this....take your current lift....devide it by 1.5.....then times it by 1.6.

(lift / 1.5) * 1.6 = New Lift

So lets just say you have .450 lift just for an example of how much lift it increases.

(.450 / 1.5 ) * 1.6 = .480

Thats quite an increase.

don't mean to be rude but I think you're missing the point. I know how lift works but I was wondering if it was actually worth the trouble of increasing it on a larger than stock cam since these heads have been known to not cooperate with anything higher than .470 lift. So putting it this way... I know increasing lift will add power, BUT is it worth the trouble of modifying the stock heads to run that much lift (.477int//.490exh) to get that extra bit of power? OR should I just go with 1.5 which will leave me under the acceptable range of lift on the stock heads with an LT1 f-body cam?

I'm going to say, it probably won't make a huge difference going from 1.5 to 1.6 with an LT1 cam. The heads can only flow so much in stock form so you'd probably be at max flow with the stock lift of that cam, anymore lift may just be wasted and any added power may be negligible. This is just my opinion and some speculations.

Another way to look at it, is you probably need to replace your valve seals anyways. So pull the heads, and valve springs and get the new valve guide seals and get em cut for the lift at the same time.

I was just answering your question on how much .1 adds.
