Help, TBI won't start
Help, TBI won't start
Ok, this is weird.
I've got a 92RS 305 TBI, auto.
I drive the car to work and it runs fine.
Then, I go to lunch and the thing won't start. I've got fire, fuel and the engine cranks fine, but it just won't run.
It acutally seems like i'm getting too much fuel!! It just sputters without actually starting.
I'm not sure what else to check.
I sure could use a bit of help. Its waaayyy too cold out to be without a car.

The plot thickens....
After a couple of days of trying to trouble-shoot this problem, a new twist has developed.
Over the last few days, its been real damn cold. 5-25 degrees F, and the car just won't start no matter what.
Today, I go out and it close to 60 and it fires right up. Running just rough as hell, but drivable none the less.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on??

fuel pump most likely. Have a buddy/wife/girlfriend or such try and start it while you have the aircleaner off and are eyeing the injectors. More than likely you will see them just spit and squirt inconsistently.
If thats what you're seeing you will probably want to check your fuel pressure and check the injecters for buildup and lastly probably check the regulater. If all of that is fine then it's most likely a fuel pump going bad.

in regarde to the rough running cheak the spark plug wires they could be grounding out. check in the dark you should see glowing spark if it is grounding out. also could be foul plug.

the plugs going bad is a good posiabilty too because when an engine is to cold it adds more fuel, it could be your fuel pump too with the cold weather and all,
Well, the car seems to be running fine now. I still don't know what was wrong. More than likely just some bad gas, seeing as how my car sometimes sits for weeks at a time.
I added some fuel stabalizer and will hope for the best.
