Answer to Open Air Filter???
Well ive been searching on here for 2 days and i really havent gotten a clear answer to this, what air filter is actually the best for this. Meaning like brand and size from carb flange and is raised dropped or flat the best for this application. looking on here most people seem to say go with flat but the only one i have found is the summit brand one, and it says it has no spot for the PCV. i just want to know which one to get exactly part numbers would be great.
Thanks

I actually just ordered the K&N 14x3 open element with the slight raised base. Im not sure exactly how high its raised, but not by much. It is expensive but im sure its gonna be worth it. 14x3 is the common one though.

well i went out and bought a "holley high proformance air cleaner" part number 120-102, 14x3 now im just wondering if it will fit, on summit it says it has a drop distance of 1 1/8. so im just wondering if this one will fit.

I have the Edelbrock Pro-Flow breather. My car is so loud now. I believe i actually notice a small difference too.
Just goto advanced auto parts and buy it from them. $24.88 Same as summit racing without the shipping cost.

I bought a Moroso drop base from Summit, I could notice an immediate difference. And it sits a little lower than the stock cleaner, not problem with it touching anything.

Most filters that you buy will not have the hole for the IAT sensor. You will have to drill out a hole for that. Most cleaners do have a round dimple in the stamping that shows you where to put it.
You want to shoot for a non drop base 14x3 (or 14x2") standard open element.

The punch out for the IAT is the thing where it is one big circle in the middle of two small ones right?
Mr. Gasket 1480 is what I used on my stock LO3 with the stock Hood. Its has flat base and is a 14 inch x 2inch filter. Cleared the cap and wires and fit under the hood.

I used the Summit 14 x 3 flat base (p/n SUM-239341, $49). It worked fine, although the 3" filter is a tight squeeze under the stock hood. It comes with the IAT hole already formed in the base, no drilling required. You won't run your PCV into the filter any more, just get a separate little crankcase breather you can buy at any auto supply store.

Well i use a Specter 14x3 cleaner from autozone with a K&N filter, the filter is the closest to fit, its a little big but if you squeeze it in their it works.

I live in a pretty cold place (Quebec , Canada) . Do you think a open air filter element will work well in my Bird ? And what should i do with the PCV and the air temp sensor ?

Most open elements come with a knock-out for the inlet air temp (IAT) sensor. If it does not have one, just drill a hole in the base the same size as the one in your stock base.
Don't try to run your PCV back into the open element air cleaner. Just use a small separate filter like the one in the pic below. You can pick one up at any auto parts store, Summit, Jegs, etc.

Honestly dude, if you do a little bit more research right here on TGO, not only will you find that this SAME question (not the general Open Element question, but your not getting the answer you were looking for question) has been asked a gazillion times, but it has been answered too. So whomever reads this thread, and doesn't find the answer they were looking for, just search a little bit harder
