Is this safe?

I installed my open element air filter about a week and a half ago. I was told by an online source that to let some hot air out of the engine bay you can always remove the rubber strip that sits at the end of the hood. Its connected by plastic screws on each end and is just behind the hood light.

If I remove this rubber strip would it help at all? I was worried about when it rains I might get some rain into my engine compartment but seeing as how I am in AZ it hardly ever rains. My Camaro is my daily driver, so I was just wondering if this is worth it?

I wouldnt sweat it in AZ (well, figuratively, anyway). I did the same thing and have noticed no problems.

here's a dumb question for ya...did you notice better performance.

I mean I like the air filter and such, its great I noticed an improvement but since I got it tacked on, its been getting in alot of hot air and as we all know underhood temperatures is no fun.

I was just wondering if you noticed any real difference in acceleration.

You will be fine with the strip removed. Heck, I run mine without it, and I live in Oregon. We get like 26 times the annual rain that you get in AZ.

I took off my rubber seal on my firebird after putting headers on it and ran it like that for 2 years not a single problem out of it and not I got a american sports cars 97 ram air hood and has a much bigger gap and no seal and never had any porblems.

I didn't notic any performance but I bet it might lower the temp in the engine bay a small amount and might help release any traped air at higher speeds. Any thing that might vent some hot air out of the engine bay is good in my book.
