picking buildup parts 4 a match
Alright guys what i've got here is a stock 1986 lg4 block with barely any miles on it (less than 38k on it). What i plan on is a comp cams full install kit with match parts and a head porting.
The heads are 416s and i've already began to grind at them a little. As for cam selection i'm thinking either the comp cams xe262 or xe256 leaning towards the 262.
I'm probably going to leave stock valves in the head and just have a 3 angle valve job done (1.84/1.5s).
I'd like to run headman elite longtube headers( 1 5/8 primarys and 3 in outlets) on it and a weiand stealth dual plane intake underneath the tb (not sure if i'm going to have hood clearance issues so any insight to that is appreciated). I'll have a 454 tb on top of the intake with adjustable fpr and a 255 walbro pump in the tank.
My biggest concern right now is to get the compression up a little, this block already uses the stock thin steel shim gasket so a thinner gasket won't help much, so i'm looking more along the lines of decking the heads (don't want to buy pistons no matter what). What i want to know is the max safe ammount i can shave off these heads?
I'd also like to know if the comp cams xe262 or xe256 would be fine running a low 9 to 1 compression ratio. or high 8 to 1 compressions (8.8 8.9 or so).
Basically i'd just like to know if this is a good matching setup for a mild build.
Any insight on a better cam selection, intake manifold, hood clearance, cheap ways to gain an ideal compression for this setup are greatly appreciated.

XE256 and 262 are both available in wider LSA versions for use with EFI. This will make the compression less of an issue, and also make the motor easier to tune. Id also run a standard head gasket if possible. More squishability so itll seal better.

im also interested in what head gasket choices there are out the for an lg4 with 416 heads and a 262 cam, raising compession would be the key i know but what head gasket do i run?

yikes big difference from 7.5 to 9.5
. I may be getting hypereutectics with mine when i buy the rebuild real soon. I'll let you know if your interested in mine (less than 40k miles on them).
I'd sellem for next to nothing if you're interested but, we will see. i realy don't need new pistons so it depends on the budget at the time.
I know when i pulled the heads on my 1986 it had the the thin shim sorta gasket. Looked to be .015-.020 thick if i were to guess (i'm a decent guesser).
i'll have my whole motor measured up here pretty soon within the next week or 2. If you'd like i could throw all the measurements your way when i'm done if it would help you any.
