Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
I want to thank you for responding to my question about tuning yourself vs taking it to a pro. I didnt realize that a pro could not get it right and that it was expensive. To answer youre question about my mods the owner before me did several things but I still havent figured out every thing he did, dont think he did much because the car is lazy off the line but it does want to take off when I get pass 50 mph. For some reason it has a 1987 rear end and my car is a 91. Can anybody tell me anything about this rearend? Sorry for sloppy spelling and these ignorant questions. I love these cars I just never realized how much technical stuff is involved. Also I dont think my tranny is slipping but my gear shifts are realy prelonged or should I say in between shifts are prelonged. Is the car just old, need a tune up, maybe my timing is off. I know this question is very generic and it could be anything but any help would be apreciated.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Hello guys my name is Dmitry ,Im from Kiev Ukraine.
Some of you I sent this message by private message
I am sorry for an anxiety, but i have problems with my bin on my Firebird 91 350.
I put 350 TBI L05 engine in firebird 91
Then install new Ported Gm Perfomance 12558060 64cc 170 Vortec Head
Speed Pro +0.20 pistons and rings
Edelbrock Non EGR Vortec Intake,Comp Cams camshaft CCA-08-500-8 with 206/212 spec + springs, lift 480/488 112degrees.
Holley 506-2 670CFM truck TBI with 68lb injectors. set fuel pressure to 1.2bar , timing to 10*
Fuel Pump is new BOSCH similar like Perfomance Walbro
180 degrees thermostat , Engine has shorty headers , 3'flowmaster exhaust
700r4 transmission and 3.23 gear posi
But i have very serious problem with tune up stock bin of former L05 engine ECM is 1228746.
My engine wont work properly here is the history;
At cold:
have a misfire to Intake maniford when i push pedal over 60%
Idle speed is about 1100RPM
If i push pedal shortly she its run great.
When i push pedal to a full thorottle , she is thinking about second then fire up to intake and then start acceleration
When the temperature about 170 idle is very bad , have black smoke not answering on push pedal at all and stops
Starting engine again , idle is much more good after she heatup to 200-210' she is run great but stil have ,misfire in full throttle.
Sometimes ECM have fault code RICH mixture but spark plugs is clear (like when poor mixture)
ECM is 1228746 i use 29C256 microchip
TPS is new
MAP is new
Knock Sensor is new
Lambda is new
Ignition Control module is new
i use 95 octane gasoline
Maby someone have engine with similar tech specs and can help me to modify my bin. or send my his bin and i will try it on my engine.
Or you have friends with engine like my and i can copy their bin
my email is elmagnificodima@gmail.com or forzadma@bigmir.net
P.S someone can approximately told me how much HP i have at this engine?
Anyway thanks for help.
Dmitry

You need to begin studying the stickies right now and consider datalogging engine. You situation is exactly mine 4 years ago. After the datalog then comes the edit of your .bin. that process of datalogging and modifying the .bin will take some time. Each edit/burn will get you closer. A WB02 sensor/controller is very helpfull. It can be done mail order but that may not be practical.

Ditto. Run your car and see what happening with the datalogging. You will also need the equipment to burn new chips if you dont have it all ready. The beginning of this thread should help you out alot getting you set up to do what your looking to do. It does take a little time, but its not that difficult. Let us know if you need anything else.

I have programmer for burning chip about 3 month, i replace 2732 microchip to 29C256. burning is not a problem i have problems with coorectly change parameters in bin. in few days i will complete my ALDL cable , and when my car will stand on wheel again (im buy new wheel in us and waiting for delivery) i will data logging. at this moment i completely understand how to change VE1 VE2 table, im reading tuning guides here. and soon i will be have a lot of qustions about few parameters if you dont mind. thanks

95 Octane! Wow, we can only get up to 92 here. I would think that 95 is overkill for that. Can you get 89-91? I think that would be better unless you are running high compression and aluminum heads.
I am running 92 right now, but will experiment with 89 after I get it tuned in.
Get a WB o2 sensor. It is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to tuning.

common rating numbers over here are 91, 95, 98 and 100 (RON). these would translate to about 87, 90, 92 and 93-ish (AKI). also use caution for the amount of ethanol used in gasoline as it will influence knock resistance.
you can find info about the various octane ratings on wikipedia or similar.
so, overall we are using about the same ratings for "regular", "plus" and "premium".
i think in europe the maximal allowed addition of ethanol is 5%.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Hello again , at last we have a good weather here in ukraine and i can use car every day. Im trying to do some work with bin like BMonte tells to XJ , i have 16136965 ECM with v62 mask.I start edit few days ago, i calculate BPC and get 103 , i checked all BPC parameters on car fp is 18 psi now , #65 injectors , holley 670CFM TB , 206/212 480/488 comcams camshaft,GMPP vortec intake , GMPP iron vortec heads.Headman headers 3' exhaust. I have i 15 miles long good highway and dataloging today. here is my bin , and logs.
I up TPS treshhould to 70% , PE AF to 12.5 like Bmonte says . set #VE2 800-2800rpm to 15.63 . now i will edit the table and put TCC upper and lower from AXBF , becouse ECM is from caprice and for birds TCC is others. What next steps should o do ?

BLM data shows ECU is adding fuel pretty much across the board. wide average and wide latest.
I never understood how to read the LOG.txt. Need to export or something?
all I see are columns of numbers I cannot line up to titles?

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
few hours ago i reedit VE table and drive home its about 15km with huge traffic.
when engine is start at cold (weather is rainy and temp is around 5-6C) idle is bad , after few pushings on pedal its much better , when the car is hot idle speed at parking around 1000rpm , on drive about 800-850. few times shes trying stops with error code HIGHT MAP but if put rpms to 2000 and hold on 5-10 sec error code is gone and work ok.
here is my new BLM , blm shows that the mixture is rich and need to reduce some cells. My question is when and how i need to set some compensation for good cold start ?

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
I edit a bin , and cope XJ VE2 table to my bin and drive again , so here is last blm's and logs. as we see blm's is around all blm is around 128 but i have error code O2 rich few times , and then its gone. maby ats a mistake to put XJs VE2 ? but i think my original VE2 table is very bad. what i need next to do ? how edit VE2 it has one % for ich rpm and BLM counts for map 40-50-60-70 etc , and if i see that blm in this windows is different , how to choose right blm from table foir VE2 ------------------------------- using a XJ VE2 was a mistake , she is really rich so i hold my parameters now and revutn to , tell me please how correctly edit VE2 . next sper after VE2 is slightly up SA ?

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
OK, went through the $62 code this morning and I am fairly sure that this is the correct location for the MAP high threshold. Will need to either add it to the XDF file or edit the BIN directly.
You need to increase the value by at least 10KPa. The BCC I looked at has it at 67.9 KPA. So increase it to 77 - 78 KPa and see if that does the trick.
The location is $46A
The conversion is: KPa = N * .369 + 10.415
RBob.

I put it to Constants "MAP High threshold" old constans was 156 = 67.97 Kpa , i set it to 184 = 77.57 Kpa. I will try it monday morning.

Very familiar with the High MAP code though. Many thanks to Rbob for going through $62 in search of that threshold. I will have to update my XDF for $62. Just in case I decide to tune a B-body someday.
My 305 TBI build had a Crane HR-276-2S-12 IG in it (276/284 @ .004, 214/222 @ .050, .488/.509" lift, 112 LSA) and idled with only 11 in/hg of vacuum in drive @ 700 rpm. I found that my engine LOVED advance at idle, around 32* is where it seemed happiest.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
With the BLM's lower then 128 the engine is running rich. The BLMs are removing fuel to bring the AFR back to where it should be.
Is the EGR active? There is a separate table of BPC values that are used when the EGR is on. Also note that there is a closed throttle VE table.

Should disable the EGR in the calibration. Can usually set the enable temperature at the maximum value.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Hello i disapointed , BLMs says to me to lean VE1 but my car wont drive with those calibrations, idle is little rich , acceleration is very bad , like a 10ton trailer behing , and very very important problem that i have at all bing , even stock AXBF after idle shes wont accelerate at all and die, when i put pedal more than 20% quickly shes try to start something, when i put pedal slowly from idle shes die. first of all i think this is fuel pump , but its work great fuell pressure is 1.2 at idle and not down, i try 2 TPS , try to set TPS to 5%-10% at idle nothing help. I look to impulses on ingectors whtn i trying up RPM on inde or start driving and there is no fuel, O2 is shows 0.03 when she try to die , but BLM says lean the mixture WTF. i try to set main spark to 4-10-14 ... nothing , put new spark plugs ... nothing , use external fuel pump ... nothing , use new TPS ... nothing changed . rise , unrise SA table ... nothing . I hate my TBI

fuel pressure 1.2 lbs? I think that is a type-o you meant 12 lbs.
BLM is rich but that is not a big issue for now.
You are using a Vortec spark table I presume but that should not prevent you from getting it running decently.
By pressing pedal 20/% the engine is getting more fuel(aka pumpshot or AE) and it comes alive only to fail after the fuel is used. Seems you need more fuel in VE tables. Sounds like you are OL at idle but that is not a big deal.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Guys I am disappointed in my TBI nothing helps ... i try to use few different start bins , and always the same ... on datalogs BLM is 108-120 in all cells even when i reduce, reduce, reduce VE1 table to 10-30 , i try different BPC constant from 80 to 130 ... nothing changed after few datalogs she still want 108 but dont want to drive at all and o2 sensor show that mixture is LEAN and BLMs think that is RICH how it can be? 02 sensor work good only when car is stoped at "D" O2 jumped from 0.2 to 0.8 . In park its 0.8 most time , in slight acceleration is 0.02.... I try to up and down spark tables ... nothing , I changed AFR to stock L05 bin ...nothing. I up and donw map treshould ... always the same...I burned tons of fuel and dont have anything , my can is wont drive , smell, smoke, on cold idle is bad.
i know that i have not popular 6965 ECM but i cant find help here .... what shoul i do ? Im thinking about swap this fckn TBI to carb i will zip few bins and on every been with any BPC she want lean . Help me something , maby someone have bin for my specs ? . we have another idea WHAT will happen if we block BLM and build VE ans SA table on WB O2 sensor ?

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
I happen to have the fuel and timing tables I ran with a GM "845" camshaft (214/222* @ .050, .488/.509" lift, 112* LSA), dual plane intake, and ported 062 vortecs. It was in my van with a 2,600 rpm stalled 700r4 and 3.08 gears. I copied the tables into you .bin and did the best at looking over your current settings. They seem decent enough. I will not claim this to be perfect, but it should be a better start than the stock TBI Caprice 9C1 calibration. I would give you the whole .bin that I ran, but it was setup on a "299" ecm running $99 and it is way different.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Also question about BPC , why in last XJ's bin its 138 ? if he use 350 with Holley TB with 65 . I calculate by injectorsize.xls for this site and have 103-105 .I use Holley 670 have 65lb/hr injectors ,standart FP for this stock motor is 10 psi - I have 1.2 bar = 17.4 psi so my BPW (BPC) should be 101,4 ? Im asking this becouse early , few days ago when i first have a problem with die at part trottle i put 101 in bin shes rich by BLM but lean by O2 , when i up to BPC(BPW) 120-130 shes drive normally ar part trootle but got wery rich by all cells and smoke around.
If XJ set it to 138 how its car work correctly?
Today i will try bin that Fast355 gave me mich 105 BPW(BPC) and will see

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Hello. Thanks to Fast355 < bin that you gave to me work much better , after few hours drivin , BLMs are from 114 to 126.6 (but not 115 in all cells ) I think my BPC is too high , i reduce it from 105 to 102 and retune VE1

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
You want a BLM reading of 126-130 or so. Not quite sure what you mean by not 115 in all cells since you should be targeting 128. Your BPC if anything is a little low...you would want to raise it a little. Honestly BPC is just a number, the only reason to raise it would be if you were starting to run out of room on the VE table. I was not sure which injectors you were running or the fuel pressure, so I just used what I thought was close.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Hi. I make dataloging every day last week , car run much more good it have some power , and i have a little problem with it only when engine temp is around 80 C' (i think when thermostat opening) she's have no throttle response and shes Sneezes this happens only from 78-84 C' when warmed up everything is ok. here's my latest bin , I run with it about 15 min by highway and 10 min in the city stop engine save BLM , then run it again and went home 10-15 min through city and have some little different BLM. I so understand that it related to the modes of engine work at highway and city?
Also please look at my SA table , can i rise it up in 80-100 MAP for better Acceleration ? or it is high now ?

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
You have 43* total advance at high rpm, which is WAY too much. I would limit the advance to 28-32* total timing @ 85+ KPA and WOT. Vortecs really will not need more than 32*, MAYBE 34* total timing. Keep in mind they have a fast burn chamber and increasing the timing further will only slow you down. Use my original timing table as the upper limit for 85-100KPA region. Feel free to experiment with bringing in advance quicker. My spark map was based on a heavy van with tall gearing and a stock torque converter that would knock if the timing was brought in too early.
As far as the sneeze, it looks like the AE Correction vs. Coolant temperature table is removing ALOT of AE in the trouble area. I would flatten the table out and level it out at 1.00 through the top.
The BLM numbers show you are a little lean through the loaded operating region. When you are tuning BLM you should drive with slow, steady throttle changes, and try to reach many different RPM/Load values. Time and distance is your friend here. The longer the trip, the bigger data sample you will have, and the more accurate your changes will be. My tuning on my van was once based on a weekend 80 mile trip which is now 85 miles.

Re: Come in for a FREE tune!!!!
Not trying to detract from or hijack, but wanted to ask Fast if the bin files on Moates site are from your engine when you had the Vortec heads and ZZ4 cam in it?
Still waiting on my heads to get out of the machine shop, have been looking over bins and .xdf files on TunerPro, trying to decide which would be the best starting point, and yours seemed like it might be the closest to what I am gonna be running.
I can load a $0D coded chip into my '8625 PCM and it will work, correct?
