Best new or used heads for a camed L03
Ok I wanted to know what would be the cheapest but the best performer heads I could buy for my L03 because I know for a fact that these heads are holding me back, so if any one could tell me about any good heads that will fit on the L03 and work good that would be awesome.
Thanks

vortec is probably your best bet and cheapest way out, but, you have to worry about machine work with them and the lost compression, + expensive manifold blah blah blah. Many downsides and they get costly. My opinion is blend the bowls with the tbi heads and smooth out the valve guides best you can/gasket match the intake and heads and see where that gets you.

I was wondering what the best bolt on heads were. Would the 305 TPI heads be better? The came I am running now is comp cam XR258HR, which is a little lager than the lt1 cam.

Would 305 TPI heads work well? If they would what years would be the best. I obviously have the 87 or later heads b/c of the centerbolt vavle covers.

i have a question the cam you listed is comp cam XR258HR but all the cams i see for that part number are .480 and either .488 or .487 i thought that with the stock lo3 heads you couldnt go over a .480 lift im just curious about this becasue i have been looking at cams for my 89 rs and want to get the right one. Can anyone tell me if what im saying is right or not????

Yes my car runs pretty good with that cam. My engine is totally rebuilt, rebuilt stock heads with comp cam springs, edelbrock performer tbi intake, hypertech streetrunner chip, 3 in cat back exhaust, msd blaster coil, napa dis. and wires (7mm), edelbrock 14x3 open element, smog equipment + cat are removed, performance high volume oil pump, tpi fuel pump w/ new fuel filter. My 700r4 is completly rebuilt with new torque converter, my 10 bolt rear end is completly rebuilt (10 bolt) with 3.73 gears and eaton posi. The whole suspension is brand new ( I mean everything) with so many perf. parts its too much to list like panhard rod(UMI), shocks (KYB), struts (KYB), lower control arms(UMI), tie rods, ball joints, a-arm bushings, etc.Everything on my car is basically new, my dad and I went throught the whole car this winter and it is a pretty much a brand new car I will be soon getting headers, I think I will be getting the flowtech's with the y-pipe even though everyone hates them, I am positive that a brand name company does not make headers than are junk within 200 miles. So I guess I am going to take that risk. Also future mods include underdrive pulleys, aluminem driveshaft, nos kit. But before those happen I am getting it repainted the orignial color. Red with black heritage stripes, yes it is an original Z03 car though it is a rs. So I will be cloning it to a Z with the hi-rise spoiler. I already have the 92 z hood louvers, and the 92 z grill.
Thanks

You want heads? I've got 4 sets of heads I want to get rid of to fund me some aluminum trickflows.1 set of ported 081's,2 sets of 906 vortecs and 1 set of 187 swirlies that I'll probably never get rid of.

The flowtechs with their Y is a performance mistake. Spend a few more $ and get a better set. You want something that is designed for the L98, not the L03, the stuff designed to work with the L03 is not much better than stock.
Your 187s are not holding you back at this time. It is tuning and exhaust in that order.
I put 240 to the ground with STOCK 187s on a cammed 312 and I am putting 218 to the ground with 810s (HD 350 version of the swirl ports) on my stock cam 350 through stock exhaust manifolds.

I'll be posting this in the classifieds so I don't hijack this thread.
