Looking for opinions on stock 305 TBI

I just turned 16 about 5 months ago and ever since i set my eyes on my dad's 1968 SS-RS 396, I've wanted a Camaro and I finally got one . My dad bought me a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro RS that happened to be around the 40-50th Camaro I had stumbled my interest upon on AutoTrader.com And we bought it for $3,800 @ 145k miles. He had nothing done to the engine at all other then yellow spark plug wires and a preformance chip. (and it's as clean as a pen!) I've been wantin' to hop it up a little and I have the money to afford some headers(Possibly Hooker 2210's?) or a cam, but I've realized how limited I am to hopping a 305 up and I'd hate to possibly ruin the value of the car if it was to be worth anything. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? Also my dad has been thinking over finding me a TPI system.

Headers and exhaust are an easy 30 hp on your car and will increase the value of it, not decrease it. The exhaust system on theses cars is HORRIBLE, so that's where you'd get the biggest bang for your buck. If you want to keep the stock exhaust manifold's for originality purposes, you can ...just store them somewhere warm and dry.

TPI won't give you any significant gains. The TPI cars had more power because of their camshafts (and maybe heads). The heads and cam in your car would be your next target after the exhaust system - not the induction system.

read the TBI stickys, youll find answers to everything there. IMO start off with headers and an exhaust. Than move on to a cam or heads...

I would start with the basics on focus on the exhaust. As mentioned your biggest gains will be seen there. Take some time to read through the "new to TBI" stickies linked above at the top of this forum. Also, read through the exhaust board to decide which headers are right for your budget and power goals. Good luck and Happy modding!
