Cam swap question

Hi guys. I wanted to put a camshaft in a 305 TBI motor. The part number on summit is CCA-CL12-268-4. I was wondering if I would need to do anything with fuel pressure to get the most out of the cam, or if it will run fine without touching it? Also, if i do need to adjust fuel pressure, where can I find an adjustable regulator? And last, will this cam work with the stock valve springs, or should I change them to the recommended ones? Anyone have experience with this cam? Thanks everyone.

I'd be surprised if it started and idled at all. That cam is huge compared to stock. On top of that almost all stock heads need the retainer to seal clearance checked once you are past .465 lift and almost all need machine work once your get close to .475. So no you won't get away with a simple spring swap here.

On top of that this cam is a really bad match for the rest of the LO3 motor if it's stock. The heads, intake, and exhaust are all done by 5000 rpm, this cam in a 305 is gonna have a power band from 3000 to 6500.

The only way to get this to run properly and even make the same power as it did stock is with tuning. You can't change such a major component of the engine without tuning. Don't think this is a TBI specific problem, it's not. This is a speed density specific problem. A SD TPI setup will have the same problems.

If not this cam, then which cam could I swap in and not have to change a lot? I had the next series down from that in my 86 TA with the 305 (.464, .470 lift), and it worked perfectly with no engine light or anything. That cam said it was computer compatible, so I figured there would be no problems. Just looking to get some more power from my buddies truck, and an engine swap is not an option right now....I'm not very familiar with TBI, because all I've ever worked on is TPI. I'll take all the help i can get! Thanks.

Your T/A was a MAF system, those are much more foregiving when it comes to modifications. Truthfully, your best to leave the cam alone untill you can tune it, you might be able to get away with a LT-1 cam like grind in the 204 dur range, but thats just it. You'll be getting away with it, it won't run like stock, and some guys have had problems with them idling. A simple retune of the ECM is going to make it run like stock and give you all the power the combo is capable of.
