An Edelbrock #4207 Open Element Fits a TBI...

Right?

Edelbrock Elite Series Air Cleaners: EDL-4207 - summitracing.com

That's what I plan to get...does anyone have a part # for the K&N that will fit as well? Anyone ever dyno a stock TBI before and after and pick anything up from this mod, or is it more a throttle response thing? To me, the heat soak theory could tend to hurt the gains this mod can make, but what do I know...

Any help is appreciated...my apologies, as this has probably been discussed before! I just want to make sure I get the right pieces...

Looking for the same thing!

I have a 91 RS as well. as for fitment im not sure im looking for one also and would like to know how it turns out so I can get one. I have done a lot of reading on air induction for TBI's and the all the solutions for the starved TBI. At this point I would rather not waste the time and energy on creating my own homemade CAI setup that wont work as well as it does in my mind. The dual snorkel setup could be exspensive if you cant find the HO stock dual snorkel air cleaner, and end up buying the aftermarfet one. Which you will probably run into fitment issues either route due to the cluttered passenger side of the engine bay. While the air from the open element air cleaner will not be as cool as from a cold air source it will certainly not be as starved as the stock Thermac unit. i will be going with an open element as soon as I find the correct one.

The fitment is going to be extremly tight if anything. Id mock something up in cardboard before purchasing one, just to be sure it clears the underside of the hood and insulation ok.

Fitment

I guess a mock up would work. As long as the new assembly doesnt sit higher than the stock aircleaner lid stud there should be no hood issues. As the center portion of the 3rd gen hoods is slightly raised. I aggre hate to but it have it fit like a dream to the TBI look pretty go to close the hood and bam your fitment issue. im gonna look into it and see what I come up with.

should work in the description it says its a dropped style base but you gota keep that ring spacer that comes with the stock air cleaner or it hits the ignition coil you could try a flat base air cleaner pull out the spacer and get a 4inch filter. I had a 1" TBI spacer(more like 1 1/8") and a 3in open dropped filter it did rub the hood a little but without the spacer the filter would fit fine.
