I can't seem to find the metal peice with the timing degrees on it. stock 305 engine. I had no problem finding it on my 2.8 bird, but this one, it leaves no trace. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place, but if anyone has a pic of where I should look, if its hiding, would be great.

on my 305's if you look behind the waterpump stright down it is right there. Ussually that is where they are on most.... not there.then perhaps it broke off?

yea. not exactly something that happens very often in fact i think it is rare.. but it is ussually affixed to the timing cover. If it is not there then it took a trip without you.

 

It may have fallen off as mentioned but I bet if you got a flashlight and really leaned over and looked behind the water pump you will see it. Chances are it is rusty and full of funk thus making it not stand out. A little sandpaper wrapped around a long screw river is often times enough to clean it off so that it is legible. You should also consider using a little white paint to fill in the line on your harmonic balancer. These two tricks alone can make setting your timing a lot easier. Especially if the lighting outside is poor!

 

Mine was extremely nasty when i got it... nothing some engine degreser and some carb cleaner couldn't fix. and never had to scrub at all lol. although you can not start the car for a little bit till it all dries off lol.
