which heads?
hey guys, right now i have s/r torquer heads with 2.02/1.60 vavles on my engine, they have 76cc combustions, this is my problem, i have a crappy 8.5-1 compression ratio. my question is should i have these shaved to up comprssion or convert to a set of vortecs which would bring the conpression up. or which one of these heads is a better overall performing head?
i know i would also have to have some machining done on the vortecs to take my .500 lift cam.

i say stick with your s/r because if you go with the vortec heads your going to buy a special intake manifold to be able to use them so that is another 300+ $$$ so stick with the heads you have now and get them shaved they should work fine.

Compression is overrated, you only gain 3% power for every point of compression. So a 300 hp engine will only gain 9 hp going from 8.5 to 9.5 to 1 The 2.50$ per fill up difference between 87 and 93 octane would buy alot of other speed parts.

ok thats suprising, i thought compression had way more of an effect on the engines power. Let me ask u this, would it be worth my while to get those heads port and polished, how much would it cost and how much hp's could i get out of this?
thanks guys

A DIY port job could be worth 20-30 hp if you do a decent job. I wouldn't consider having some one else do it, the HP per dollar ratio just isn't all that great when you have to pay $500+ for a port job.
What does the rest of your combo look like? We could give you a better idea of what would help the most if we know what other bolt on's you had as well as the rest of the cam specs.
If you haven't got into DIY chip tuning you could have a LOT of power locked up there.

the rest of my setup is a 50mm throttle body, bored intake manifold to match, adjustable fpr, the s/r torquer heads, roller rocker, lunati cam duration at .50 its 227/233, and lift is .489/.504, full msd ignition, headers and 3in exhaust, and self tuning with tunerpro rt, also using wideband. just wondering what kind of power this thing should make, right now it doesnt feel over 300hp.
