does anyone have any good suggestions on how to upgrade my 305 to get more power out of it, she has 140000mi on her, maybe a whole new motor? that sounds expensive...... hell it is.

 

a well taken care of 305 TBI will go 200k-250k miles easy if not more. get a flat based open element first, low temp thermostat, and exaust. mine has 148k. I'm redoing everything but the drivetrain. by the time I'm done with all that the motor and tranny should be ready to go out.

Anytime you increase the power you put more stress on your rotating assembly, but yes a non-drop or flat base open air element will add extra flow to your car and make extra HP, you also need some headers and full exhaust to make use of the extra intake air. After that and some underdrive pulleys, and ultimate TBI mods in the tech section your car will be a different animal and your exhaust, pulley and open air element are all transferable to a new engine or rebuild.
