I am involved in converting from the stock thermac style air box to an open element air filter. The stock unit had the vacum operated flap inside the snorkel, since removing the vacum line from the TBI unit I figure I need to plug it somehow. What is usually done in this case?

Okay, I had the same problem back in the day and my car started to run lean. What I did was I took the plug and slipped it inside of the open element. It never interfered with any components with the TBI. Try it, if it stays there than there you go. I left it that way for like a year and nothing ever happened to it. I miss me old blue 88 RS

Just get a vacum cap

Just get a small piece of rubber hose, take a screw and screw it in one end, make sure the screw is nice and tight and just push the other end over the Tbi, i just did this mod this weekend, no problems! Later, Jimmy

there are little rubber caps like Zac pointed out specifically for this purpose. OR, you can do what probably most of us have done is just cut the hose down to where its just a nub and put a screw in the end

Definately do not put the hose in the aircleaner that will cause a vacuum leak

they sell those caps at kregan for about a dollar , it looks a little cleaner than the screw but i do admit i did that myself for about 6 months till i saw the caps and figured what the hell. eather way make sure u cap it off one way or another

Cut down the stock hose and shove a screw in it. That's all I did.

Buy the vacuum caps, man. Hose w/screw in it looks like death. Should be able to get 5 assorted vacuum caps for less than $1.00...
