fuel pumps????

what kind of peak pressure is the factory pump capable of pushing? could i regulate it with an off the shelf low pressure (7-15lbs) regulator from a carburated car?

thanx

ive seen specs in some fuel pump catalogs that say 18 psi but i also know of people who have pushed them to 25 psi... i guess anything past 18 is at your own risk

It's not quite that simple.
Pressure is based on the pumps volume output which is then restricted by the regulator.
Looking at a graph from a Walbro 401 pump(for TBI). It can put out anywhere from 0 to a max of 38psi. Thing is, at 38psi it can only SUSTAIN approx 5gph or enough for 50-60hp depending on VE. On the other hand, at 20psi it's 28gph and at 10psi it's 34gph. So it kinda depends on the pump and how much hp you're making. On this particular pump I can run 18-20psi up to approx 280-300hp or 11-13 up to about 325-335. More than that and I'd be getting pressure drops at WOT.
For what it's worth, it's better to have a pump capable of handling more (20%) than you need for both performance and the life of the pump.
