Too high RPMs?
Hey, guys, I installed an open element on my TBI and then took for a full throttle run. It worked great. However, I noticed that my car used to shift at around 4500 RPMs, but now that I put the open element on it shifts up around 5000 RPMs. (I have an automatic)Is this o.k.? I won't hurt the engine will I? Didn't know if you guys had the same situation. I kind of need the car to last another 2 years to get me through college and I really don't want to blow the engine.
Thanks.
Josh

hehe it shouldnt really make your car shift any higher i dont see why it would but dont worry about it the redlines on these cars are there just to tell you when the power runs out. I regularly shift mine at 6000, same shortblock as you

Please disregard my technical ignorance. I still do not understand cars very well in comparison to some of you guys. I don't know what I was thinking. Shift points determine where you shift, not how much air you intake. Duh! I guess maybe I was thinking it was getting choked off with the stock intake and would not rev as high because of a lack of oxygen. I have come to the conclusion that I am most likely driving more aggressively than before, and that is what is causing the higher RPMs.
