my engine is a 305 TBI and it shakes when stopped and kinda surges when driving. I replaced the alternator, didn't fix it, I replaced a worn plug wire and it helped but its still shaking, I replace the plugs this summer. If my steering pump is dying would it cause my engine to shake?
I'm going to replace all plug wires, if that don't work I'm going to replace the plugs again. also I haven't gotten any codes yet, but could it be a emissions problem?
Any advise would help.

this is kinda remedial but have you changed your fuel filter. if it clogs then your motor will surge and lose LOTS of power. i bet thats your problem. if so then at least check the plugs because they will probably be close to cooked in the high temp of the lean condition the filter has had your motor in.
