factory exhaust hdr./y-pipe questions

factory exhaust hdr./y-pipe questions
I was observing at this years car show that the late TPI cars had upturned factory exhaust manifolds.
WHat year did this start?
I currently have an all stock TBI 88 SC Camaro. I want to look stock but swing a big stick.
Am I correct in understanding that the TPI cars got a larger EXH manifold, and that the best TPI EXH manifold is the upturned one, and that the Y pipe will be 3".
Don't worry about back pressure ... my 2.5"in/out muffler will give me plenty of back pressure.
I know it is a lot of work for minimal gains, but i want to look stock.
