open element filter
open element filter
Im starting to do some mods on my 91 firebird and i think i'm going to go with an open element filter. I've heard that its a pretty good HP to $ ratio. I've been looking at the K&N, Edelbrok, Morrosso, Summit, and Delco. Any suggestions(and part #'s)...am i going to need a drop base filter?..and will i have to relocate the 02 sensor, and the IAT sensor inside the new element?..thanks

Hey man, I used a 14x2.25 because I have a 1 inch spacer. Some people use the 14x3. The PN for the 14x2.25 is #KNN-601263
The 14x3 is KNN-601280
As for the Coil, I didn't have to move mine but I did have to drill a hole in the bottom of the open element (there is a outlined hole the have engraved for u) and I put my IAC in there. So the choice is yours, if I was you, never order a TBI spacer from Jegs. Look for a Corian spacer or anything that is ONLY .5 inches high! Anything else is to high and then your open element will hit the top of your hood. But thats a whole different mod.

i have the GM Performance Parts/AC Delco one and i use a 14"x3" K&N...
by the way...on that pic, it on my new engine, but i used it on my LO3 trtoo and it fit like a glove.
not sure of the part nuber but i think its theonly one they got. all you gotta do is cut the cut-out out like eric said, and you're all set.
you said something about a hp:$ ratio. i donrt really think that there is much of a hp increase with the open element. BUT it sounds awesome. i would do it again ina minute jsut based on that. at most its only like 5 hp (at most!). but itlooks cool, sounds AWESOME and cleans it up under the hood a little. i would definitely reccomend that as a good first mod.
