Damn this car - injectors not firing.

I'm cruising along in the formi and all tha sudden my engine just cuts out. I coulda sworn I had fuel, but I new I was close to being empty so I get out of the car and happily walk 3 miles on back country roads to get home. I get fuel and fill the car up, but it still won't start. I tried priming the system 10 or so times and that didn't do anything. I then took off the aircleaner to find that mt injectors are not firing at all. The car has been running great up till now and I've never had this sort of problem before. I had to get it towed too!! Anyways I got it back home and tried again and the injectors squirted for half a second or so when I first turn the starter, but after that it's nothin. They haven't fired again since and I've been messing with it for an hour or so. I do know the injectors are getting fuel because one of my injectors has been leaking since I bought the unit and it's leaking now. What is going on? What are the reasons that my injectors might not be firing?

Nevermind - I found out that my distributor gear is stripped. It's totally shredded. How, I am not sure of. What I have to do exactly I am not sure of either. Wish me luck.
