Open Element Tech Article

Ok, Ive got a lot of pics taken now. If somebody could though, send me a pic from straight on from the front ,of a NON drop base on the tbi, Just the base without anything else on it. I have a drop base, so i want pics of both.

Also if somebody has pics of an aftermarket breather, that would be nice too. and pics of the stock assembly peices, mine are demolished. and close up pics of the iat installed in the stock base, top and bottom showing the clip, so i can describe how to remove it from the stock base. and a pic of the metal hose coming of the exhaust manifold too please, i threw that away.

Thanks to all, just send em to my email, or post links here. thanks
ill write the article this weekend, hopefully along with the injector chart and information about injectors too.

o yeah, and since ive got my tbi dismantled now, i will take pics of process, before and after of the ultimate tbi mods.

A drop base is one that does not have a flat bottom. The non drop base is basically flat all the way across and does not dip in. If you have a stock tb unit get the non drop base. You might have to specially order it form your parts store if your going with the k&n which i recomend you do because in my opinion it made a huge difference. Also you will probably not need to put a piece of cardboard if you have the stock tb unit because on mine it did't even come close to touching the wires. You will need to extend the bolt that the wing nut goes on if you go with the 14x3

I'm still confused about the drop base thing. Should I get it with a stock TB unit? What's the cardboard for? What works best?

Read the article in the tech section at the bottom it explains the cardboard. YOU NEED THE NON DROP BASE. All the mr gaskets i have seen are non drop base but are 14x2's. I personally would just spend the extra money and get the k&n. NON DROP BASE ASK SOMEONE AT THE STORE YOUR BUYING IT FROM OR TELL THE CATALOG PEOPLE THAT YOU NEED THE FLAT BOTTOM BASE ONCE AGAIN THE NON DROP BASE.

The whole kit including the filter from k&n is $70

The mr gasket is like $25 but i would just get the k&n

Sorry forgot to tell that i would also get the 14x3 k&n and yes it will fit but you have to extended the bolt the wing nut goes on.

the non drop base isnt flat, it just doesnt drop, a flat base aircleaner would be bad

and i didnt add the "cardboard" part that was macs doing I would just say to use electrical tape to insulate the wires further or zip tie them out of the way

You can also bend the bracket that the coil is on backwards a bit. This is what my mechanic did after my accessorie fusable link was melted from the aircleaner base rubbing thru the 12v wire to the coil. I am the one that emailed Mac to add that to the bottom of article.

SUMMIT has several different drop and non-drop units with K&N type reusable filters for around $40. I just received a 14x3 non drop for that price. They have several different heights. The filter looks like a K&N unit.

I have the 14" x 4" K&N open element on a non drop base. But I have a 2" cowl induction on my camaro. If someone can tell me how to post the pictures on this I'll do so.
