Resetting after open element install

I put on a new open element k&n this weekend and i noticed in an earlier post someone said you must disconnect your battery nd let the computer reset to take advantage of your new power...is this true...i felt more throttle response right off the bat without doing this but that may be because my old filter really needed to be replaced.

if you disconnect your neg cable, it will reset the block learn multiplier numbers or (blm).
This in essence means that your computer will start adjusting your air fuel ratio from scratch again, without taking into consideration your old a/f ratios when you had your stock aircleaner on.

so yes, you might notice a gain. slight.

The BLM's are continous so the car will learn new adjustments all the time. I wouldn't bother with resetting them. My past experience suggests that if you do, the car will run a bit rough for the first few minutes...then smooths out as it learns.

correct, it will run a little rough till it learns and adjusts a/f. True, you dont have to, eventually it will adjust to correct levels. But say you are rich, then you do something, then you are lean. starting in the middle makes more sense than having to have the computer comensate from one end of the spectrum to the other. also, disconnecting the cable takes seconds. guess you do have to reset your damn radio stations though

Here's a tip. There is a fuse just for the computer located by the battery. Just pull it's holder out of it's waterproof cover and remove the fuse to reset the computer and you will not disconnect anything else. Hope this helps.

when u don't disconect the neg. battery cable about how long does it take for the computer to reset?....i'm asking because i put on my open element and i picked up a little spark/octane type pinging and it seems like i'm running a little lean although i only drove for about 10 minutes after i put it on.....is this normal?...thanks

read this, its from the best damn garage on the internet.

Understanding the Block Learn Multiplier & Integrator Functions

It will explain how the computer resets and adjusts the computer all the time. There is no objective answer of how long your computer will take to reset to its new airflow and or fuelflow.
