P4 '427 swap list.
Here's my list of parts for the P4 swap project, please chime in with ideas or any missing peices
1) the '427 pcm. would someone please list the other pcm numbers, i know theres a few that interchange lets make a list of the models/years they came in and the bin/xdf names. This has been a headache for me as im new to the P4 scene and cant keep these 12 digit numbers straight.
2) the connectors for the P4 and a pin to pin diagram for switching from the older style to the new one.
3)LS1 MAF and connector along with a tbi caddy bonnet and a cone air filter
personal stuff:
1) going with either an ostrich or an Autoprom, probably the ostrich. These p4's don't have to be socketed do they?
2)Zeitronix WB02. If i understand right, i put the wb02 into the bung ill be putting on the headers im getting, and then use the NB output on the zeitronix box to replace the original NB output, right?
3)thinkin of going ahead and getting the EGT, is it worth the money?
4)Walbro 255
5) AFPR, still doing my homework here, no clue at all what's going on in this arena
This should yeild a totally tuneable Engine management system. It's overkill on a 305 however im putting this all together for the 350 coming down the road in a year. I still need to learn how to route the info from the WB and EGT into Tuner pro so i can see all this sheeit on the same screen.
The p4 is impressive, if we make it more accesible by consolidating some of the info(right now the main page is in the DIY PROM board, its TBI only so it would make sense for it to have a sticky in here, same with the EBL)we might save some people the headache ive had the last month.

The P4s do not have to be socketed. They have Memcals in them.
You need a knock sensor for the engine of choice that matched the PCMs year. The later TBI setups use a different knock sensor that is wired directly to the PCM. That means bypass and elimate the ESC module.
You will need some kind of intake duct to go between the MAF sensor and the Caddy TBI bonnet. Mine came off of a Vortec era truck.
You can use the WBO2s narrow band output to replace the narrow band sensor. Seemed to work well for me.
The EGT sensor is worth it IMO
I would setup an external fuel pressure regulator

I saw you're Aeromotive unit, very nice.
okay ill add the knock sensor to the list
can we make a list of the trucks these pcms came in
i mean we're not talking s10's right?

Pretty much most of the 93-95 GM trucks came with them. A few got the C3's. I havnt seen the newer C3s, so I dont know if they have the same blue/red connectors and case as the PCMs. Easy way to tell would be to pop the memcal cover and make sure it has teh usual blue memcal rather then the prom.
As for the sticky, Ill try and get something together. Maybe RBob can do a writeup as well.

So S10's DID get the p4's? will the memcal interfere with using an ostrich or other emulator like prominator or auto prom?
what about the vans? if the s10's with four bangers got the p4's, i would think the bigger vans got them as well. My orginal impression was that by trucks we meant the silverado's and gmc fullsize trucks but now im not sure.

The trucks got them as well. Grab one from a 305/350 PU/VAN and itll have the correct memcal. The one for the 4's/6's wont have the correct memcal and may be set up for other firing modes (bank/batch fire).

aight cool. When choosing a tube to go between the bonnet and the MAF are there any charecteristics to look for/avoid? i would think that a straight solid tube would be better then the typical accordian style plastic tubes. What about placement of the MAF sensor itself within the tube? might be a nice looking deal to find some intercooler piping, possibly polished and setup a CAI. Any difference on a short tube vs a long tube for tuning the MAF frequency? These hybrid MAF/SD systems are going to be such wildcards at the strip, f-body people unfamiliar with this whole deal are gonna be like WTF!!?
im thinking of routing the tube, assuming there are no problems with a long tube, to the driver side and turning one of my headlights into a ram air duct. Shweet.

K do i need the G1 adapter or the G4? im thinkin G4 but it doesnt mention the '427.
this is going to be SLICK, the idea right now is routing all the usb stuff to the astray and hacking up the removable tray so that i can just open the ashtray lid and have my usb connectors tucked away in there, clean, hidden and accesible. Radio is coming out and my various gauges will be there in its place, possibly the zeitronix unit. heehee a beast is born.

Any section of tubing would work provided it doesnt cause too much turbulence. I used a section of a rubber sanitary sewer pipe coupler to hook the MAF up to the carb hat. Just make sure that its somewhat resistant to gas as itll be exposed to fuel. Id avoid using any long sections of straight ducting as it can cause standing waves. Youll basically see the airflow ocillating up and down under power.

thanks alott man. ill make an updated list with prices as soon as possible. what do these ecms run at the junkyard? considering i may end up with a vortec block and 4l60e i might be farther ahead to get the whole truck and strip it out, wonder if the wiring harness is compatible with the 3rd gens setup, my wiring harness is so hacked up and burnt i wonder about it's reliability.
