TBI Performance Problems
TBI Performance Problems
I have a 2 strange problems. When my engine is cold the throttle is very responsive and the engine seems to have lots of power. However when the car gets up to normal operating temp the throttle becomes more sluggish. At WOT the power seems to be near the same but anything in between you have to push farther down on the gas to get the same acceleration as when the engine was cold.
Also I don't know if these are related, but if the engine is warmed up and I park it for 45 min to an hour when I start the car it fires right up and then dies. If you give it a little gas before it dies then it will then idle fine. It will only do this if I try to restart the engine after it has set for around an hour and is still warm. It sarts fine when it is cold.
Parts that have been replaced(not due to these problems)
-new cap/rotor, plugs, and plug wires
-oxygen sensor
-thermostat
-I've checked the timing and it is set to 0 degrees (0 degrees is what is posted under the hood)
Thanks for your help

Temperature related. hmmm, check coolant temp switch. um, first problem, normal, all of our cars get a little sluggish after they warm up. Also has to do with coolness of tranny fluid, when its thick/cold, it shifts harder providing the feeling of more responsive throttle and more powerful.
Have it put on a scanner and drivin around by a mechanic. 50 bucks tops. Or, though im not sure this is the problem, replace the coolant temp switch, it might be screwing with the computer when running and starting.

I had a very similar problem.....checked all the sensors, wires, had the entire ignition system replaced. Still had the same problems and never got the SES light.
The problem was that a rubber hose which draws fuel from the tank into the fuel pump was ruptured as if someone cut it with a knife. when the engine was cold the rupture was small so startup wasn't affected. However when it was warm I had fits trying to get it started. It finally got so bad that the SES light did come on (lean fuel fault) but by this time the car couldn't get out of its own way. So if all else doesn't fix your problem...then check your fuel pressure
