Inj. spray pattern. Is this why my mileage sucks@$$?
I posted not too long ago about my mileage going from about 23mpg to about 10-12 in less than a couple weeks.Well, today I was adjusting my fuel pressure and after firing it back up,I noticed the spray pattern was wide enough to spray fuel pretty damn near the top edge of the bores. It is still somewhat a circular pattern, but to me,it seems like it's spraying way too close to the top instead of towards the bottom more.I brought down the fuel pressure again to see if that would do anything, but still the same wide pattern. So,this isn't normal is it? Could this be the cause of my extremely high gas bill?

my spray hits pretty high too, when i converted to the 454, i noticed that sometimes fuel would bounce out of the bores because there are not ridges on top of hte bores like on the little tbi

So then, does that mean it's normal?I almost want to think that it is since both injectors are doing the same thing, but then again,I don't remember the spray hitting that high before I did all those TBI mods a few months ago.
On my stock tbi, the spray hit a little high as well. The best place for it to hit is a hair up from the throttle blades.
As for the gas mileage, have you check what your O2 sensor is reading? Have you pulled a plug to check it out? Although I think you would notice running that rich, it is worth a second look. Check out all the basics. Hows the tailpipe look? Do you get any smoke at wide open throttle? Have you checked tps voltage? I would highly recommend a cheap scanner (ala autoxray for 169.99) so you can easily read what you computer is reading to determine fuel enrichment. You can check everything without a scanner, but this is alot easier and will pay for itself soon enough. Keep us posted!
Also, just curious, are you sure you took an accurate gas mileage estimate. Might want to do it again and see if you come up with about the same mpg. I ask this because i once chased a non-exsting problem because I screwed up my gas mileage estimate.

Yep,pretty positive on the gas milage estimate;been logging it for about four -five weeks now.I just put in new plugs. The old ones looked so unbelievably good,I almost kept them in there. But they've been in there for almost 60,000 miles,so I changed 'em anyway.Oxygen sensor is next.I know, should have been one of the first on the list to check,but... This weekend I will change out the 02 sensor and take readings. And my spray pattern isn't hitting just above the throttle blades, but instead, just below the top edge of the bores.
