will stock TBI heads take .450 or .460 lift

im going to install eather a 93" (.450/.450) LT1 cam or a 95' (.450/.460) LT1 cam.

but i have 2 questions?

1: what is the max lift for stock heads
2: which would be the "better" cam.

TIA,
RS

Heads will handle it just fine. The Springs however won't handle it. They mayu until about 3000 or so where you will have valve float. The 450/460 cam looks pretty good to me. that's about what I'm running in my '92. Check out my sig for mods. I think we will be doing alot of the sme things to our cars. And we will both be tuning our own chips so maybe we should stay in touch and help each other out. Cool?

Later,
Lars

BTW: Max lift for stock heads is about .500. That;s just becasue you run into valve/piston clearance. Get valve relieved pistons and you will be able to get higher lift.

The stock springs will handle up to .480" lift.

The stock valve springs will probably "handle" the cam as far as coil bind goes, but a set of old high-mileage springs will hamper performance to some extent on even the mildest of engines. You can open any Jeg's of Summit and get K Motion part# K-700 for for $43.00. These have 115# seat pressure and will handle around .510" lift. These are great springs for the money and they're dirt cheap. The stock locks and retainers will probably be ok, but I always replace them too. You could easily run 1.6 rockers with this combo for even better performance. The stock LT1 cam is by no means a very aggressive cam, but it will love the extra seat pressure (compared to your stock springs) and will really perform well.JMHO
