6.6 77 t/a...slow!
6.6 77 t/a...slow!
I have a friend that owns a 77 6.6 t/a, and he wants to race me. I have driven the car before and I think its kinda slow for that big of an engine. Down get me wrong, I love the car, but I think I can take him with a 305 tbi. Has anyone race the 6.6 with a 305. Thanks, bigtex

The T/A 6.6 was rated at 220 HP -the most powerful musclecar of the late 70's! That's not saying much, but I'd rather have one of those than 145hp '77 camaro or a 180hp vette, any day of the week. Given that the '77 T/A weighs about 3500 lbs, I think that car produce a lower ET. All other things being equal (state of tune, condition of car, tires etc.)

Not to dispute this...but I will :
My admitadley limited research shows 2
versions of the 400 produced, one with
180 and 1 with 200hp. Either way I think you can take him. The 220hp did not debut until
1978

I agree with u man. There was a kid at my school who had one and it was not that fast at all for how big the engine was. Kinda dissapointing, but so is the LO3 so I guess I shouldn't diss it to much.

I think the cars will probably be about even. Try it.

I raced a 6.6L from about a 20mph roll. I thought he would pull good at first because of all his torque. But even with the 2.73's I had at the time I managed to pull and continue to hold my own from the start. Granted it wasn't a thrashing. The power to weight ratio on the 6.6L sucks.

871LEIROC, I do stand corrected. You are right that the 220hp didn't debut untill '78. Thanks for raising the 'ol B.S. Flag!
