Well..... it's a new baby in the family
So i tryed to justify spending lots of money into a V6 car to get into the solid 13's, i whined and complained and the finance met me for lunch and a idea of going to the bank for a loan. Well last night i poured thru the papers and called afew friends and it happen at 8am this morning. A 1976 T/A with the 6.6 liter 4 speed standard pulled into the lot where we would meet. My lil firebird 3.1L trembled alil, but still said it would race if need be. Imagine its surprise when i got out and hopped in the T/A and drove away... After a 15 minute test drive i came back and followed the T/A to the owners house and got the paperwork and keys to my new toy
It was rebuilt 10k ago, the block was pulled and bored .030 over, forged pistons were added, compression was bumped to 10.1:1. The heads, cam, manifold and carb are the RPM series from edelbrock, ceramic headers and a after market duel exhaust were added. A racing clutch was installed. The body is 95% with afew minor door dings, its artic white that needs to be reshot and the interior is about 70% with some fading in the back seat plasic peices. I have the T/A hood decal and 6.6 stickers for the shaker scoop, they have not been put on yet. Coming to work i decided to see what she really has and saw 110mph in short order from a 65 mph start and had tach and gear to go. A mustang 5.0 5 speed was no where to be seen after i welcomed his stop light rev. All i gotta say is WOW whatda car lol.... I don't think its faster then low 13's to high 12's but to come from a 16 to 17 second car to that makes it seem like a rail car with a turbine engine. Oh and one more "kidish" thing, about 2 blocks away from here at the stop sign..... A 50 foot posi mark to mark its ground
Anyways, i am keeping the firebird as a commute car and this T/A is gonna get a dyno test and i am gonna see what i can do to put it into the 11's, the nos kit i have for the firebird will get reworked and be going into the T/A soon. Come spring i am at the 1/4 mile and car shows

3500.00 i have reciepts for the work that was done and parts in excess of 4000.00, he and his wife are having a baby so i got the deal, lol i am giving him some old baby cloths from my girls and afew toys ect ect as well. I think i got a great deal
I am figuring that 5 coats artic white, and 7 coats clear, a new interior, weather striping, the decal set put on, my NOS setup and some color anodized fittings to make the engine look good it will be a good show car and driver to work on fridays, and be a terror street machine. The nos should get me into the low 12's to upper 11's. Who knows, i am still high on just getting it, i can't stop from looking out the window down on it

David,
Congrats on your new addition!!!!
You might want to check out this site: http://pub12.ezboard.com/b2ndgentransamforum
it's a pretty cool site on 2nd gen Trans Ams.Gregg, who started it, is also in Texas! Tell him George sent you! You will be able to get any questions answered if you have them. I got a question for you though, why do you call it a 6.6 liter? In 1976, it was just called a 400. 400 stickers should be on the hood scoop, not 6.6 liter. it does have round headlights, right?
Feel free to email me if you wish. I can answer some things about your car, or just post on the site I listed.
2nd gens are a blast!! Enjoy!

I will have to look around for them when it comes time to install em. Rain stopped me from really getting to play with the car, i ended up parking it under some covered parking. I have plans for going thru it with a fine tooth comb and installing NOS. I maybe taking it over to a friends and parking it in his garage for the winter. I would love to roll it out in the springtime with fresh paint and interior. The only other thing i can think of is building a 455 for it and seeing if i can get high 11's on engine this winter. Anyways, will check the site out
and thanks for the info
i do know theres a T/A yard outside of fortworth, gonna hit there one of these days too.

Congrats on the ride!! When I was 18, my uncle gave me his old '76 T/A 455 4 speed. It was white with blue decals too. It was in gorgeous shape, and all original with 75k miles. Being the last of the 455s, it was a little smogged down but still had awesome torque.
The biggest problem was that a 4 speed + 4.10s + a 455 = one helluva gas bill!! I was getting about 10-12 MPG driving it easy!! I didn't have the heart to yank on it because a) I couldn't afford the gas and b) it was so perfect and original.
Then I let my ex take it one day when I was working on her POS Neon. She rear-ended a Corolla with it, but thankfully the damage to the T/A was cosmetic...only needed a nose piece. I found one in a junkyard, then her and I broke up and I had nowhere to keep it (it was in her parents garage.) With great reluctance, I sold it. I pissed off a few kids who came to look at it...I promised myself it would go to a good home. I found an older guy with a TTA and a '69 Firebird 400, and he had been looking for "the last of the 455s" for awhile...perfect match. I sold it for $7,000, and he still has it today. I want it back!!!!!!

My mom had a 79 T/A i wanted that car soo abd but she got rid of it i drove it once when i was 13 hehe she left and i decided to leave too. Hers was tight
403 Olds big block
Buick 350 tranny
Corvette rear end
and it was sweet i love how that car was bone stock yet the only pontiac part about it was the body...
That car got me into the whole f-body thing who knows if she didnt have it i could be on fords or on the rice burners side.

Well, this morning i got a chance to gun the T/A on some dry pavement with a stop watch... Unoffically the results came out like this.
0 to 60....... 5.2
1/4 mile...... 13.1 at about 101
I launched at 2700rpm and spun alil thru first and into second, i was feathering the clutch to control it, this all was with a very upset fiancee at the stop watch controls too.... Will be interesting to see what i can do at a strip with slicks and NOS... I figure the engine to be making around 390 to 400hp.... Will post the offical times this spring when i get her to the track

FAST RS, i know how you feel about missing out on that T/A. well, you won't believe this but my grandmother used to own a black 69 camaroSS396, a blue 69 camaroSS396, a yellow 69 camaroSS396, a brown 1970.5 camaro(not sure of model), plus another 1970.5 camaro that i never saw. all were mint condition. well, i rode in the 69's several times when i was young but i NEVER got to drive one once. she sold them all before i could drive.
sometimes i just think about how bada$$ it would have been driving that blue SS396.

I've got a "kept in the family" 81 Camaro set aside for me at my aunt's house. When I finish my bird (as if it'll ever be REALLY done), She's agreed to sell it to me for about $3k. It's all white T-tops, and perfectly stock, been sitting in a garage for the last 15 years, they take it out once a year or so, then put it right back. I'll porbbaly have to do some serious cleaning and a rebuild to remove that much downtime, but it will be an instant showcar. God save the 2nd gens!!
