Surge at idle/stall
Surge at idle/stall
Okay I have a 89 formula with a 305 TBI,
On occasin after the car is warm, it will start to idle irracticly, surge, and go real low, then surge, then go low and eventually stall.
The problem has been around for about 2 months. I live in michigan, and the weird thing is that on warmer days (in the winter) the problem will show up, to the point where I can't even drive the car.
I have replaced, TPS, IAC, distributor, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, 02.
I have also checked the fuel pressure. And replaced one of the injectors.
I finally put a scan tool on it, and everything seems fine. The problem is that the car will never act up when the scan tool is hooked up.
On occasin when it has one of its fits, it will recover, and the computer shoots back code 45...rich exhaust detected..
Does any one have any ideas

mine did pretty much the same exact thing. after pulling my friggin hair out for a week ot two straight, i figured out what the problem was. my timing was off. i had to advance it a LOT. if i remember right, it was like 12 degrees at like 2000 rpm. i dont really remember though...i could be wrong. but it helped a LOT. it still runs a little funny once in a while, but i also still have a stock chip with all my changes, so i guess that is to be expected.
