Breathers don't get rid of the gasses in the engine. The breathers filter the air that enters the engine as a function of the PCV system function. Engine sucks in air by the PCV valve and therefore from the engine internals. There has to be a place for the air to get "in", hence a brether, or two.

YOU MUST USE YOUR PCV system an a daily driver or you will trash your oil and engine over time!!! Hook it back up and leave it hooked up.

breathers are not going to help your street car any. just like the above posts say. you need to have that pcv valve on their. it removes harmfull crankcase gases and reintroduces them into the intake, where they are burned. Those gases have lots of corrosive acids, etc. in them, you don't want to have those eating away at the oil in your car, and therby the engine internals. Breathers look cool, but they don't do anything for a stock street driven 305.

Before PCV valves cars just had a vent to let the fumes out into the atmosphere.

PCV valves don't make you loose any real performance, you can use a breather on the side that goes into the air cleaner if you want to make the engine look nicer.
