Although most of us have an open air element I would go with the new sponser product. Ram Air is the best however you look at it. Faster moving air with a lower temperature and greater density. open air elements are great when it is under 50* outside and all of that cool ambient air can rush into your engine bay, but when summer time rolls around your car will be beggin' for some cooler air. Either is still better than stock and the open air element is very cheap and easy to do. (don't get the $20 summit one...It won't clear your distributor) I think most of us here would love to see results on that new RamAir setup. Go for it and let us know!

I don't know if I would buy the one from the new sponsor. $75 is pretty expensive for a piece of hose with a Chevy intake at the end. I agree that induction is going to be better, but I think that you could make your own for about $25 that works just as well as the sponsors. I am thinking of making one now with an Iroc grill from the junkyard ($20), an Iroc filter housing from the junkyard ($20) some dryer hose connecting where the foglights go in the grill up to the filter housing and then some more hose from a junkyard car into a cut in the front of the aircleaner. I saw someone elses design of this and it looked sweet. I bet it'll work a million times better than the sponsors setup since he uses the super restrictive plumbing. Plus its cheaper, just a little more work.
Or if you want to use his setup, go to lowe's and the junkyard and I bet you can make it for all of $15 dollars.

Hey I believe $75.00 is a very reasonable price for our Ram AIR Kit! This kit is not some piece of left over junk you would find in your garage. This kit was custom made from polyethelene plastic(impact resistant)to fit in the location pictured on the car. It is a very high flowing design that does a great job force feeding cold air into the snorkle assembly. The rubber air hose is a very high quality comercial grade that you will not find in any auto parts store or home depot. The factory snorkle air cleaner can be made to flow very well by removing the heat stove mechanism and blocking hole off, and removing the restrictive ring around inside of air cleaner (ADD K-N filter). For even higher flow you can add a 14in open element top to the snorkel air cleaner which will leave aprox 1/2 inch around air cleaner. You will get some engine heat but still benefit from the cold air provided by the ram air kit. This system is mounted in front of the front wheel opening and does not interfere with your tire. I am going to post some better pictures of the instalation on the web site so stay tuned. The TBI cars have a air temp sensor that is mounted in the air cleaner assembly that helps tune the air fuel ratio. The ram air kit will help stabilize this by keeping a more consistant cool air charge, providing you with more consistant power. (Unlike open air element air cleaners)This kit has a factory installed apearance and is well worth the price! I have used this kit on the track and street since I developed in early 97 and would not do with out it. If any one is interested in doing a group purchase on this kit please let me know and we can work out a better deal. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email anytime! performance-induction@hotmail.com

Hey Jason,

I'm not ripping on your product buddy, I'm just saying that for a piece of plastic and a rubber hose (that looks an awful lot like a piece of rubber hose I used as a piece of drainage for a sink a while back.) I don't see where it costs you anywhere close to $75.00 to produce or even close to what you were charging before that. I give you credit for having the ability to make and market those things, but I was just saying that for about $12 he can make his own that will work just as well as yours. If he spends just about $75 (not quite) he can make one that will flow even MORE air into the system, if you want me to sketch out the one that I'm gonna make, you could sell it as a kit and I wouldn't have any qualms with it. I'm just saying that yours looks like it is only one step up, when if you take a little more time and a little more risk you can make something about 5 steps higher than that.
Besides some of the other stuff stated above, the air cleaner doesn't even look the same as the one in most of our cars anyways, and that car with all of the smoke, if thats the one that you took the pictures of your system in, looks like its been heavily modified anyways... also, how do you know that it adds 15 HP? These are just observations of mine, but hey, I really don't know what I'm talking about half the time, and tonight I've had a lot to drink, so I could be wrong.

PS-- Everyone on here knows that the hose that the air cleaner uses on a 3rd gen camaro or firebird is about as restrictive as it can get, if you were to even widen the hose by about a 1/2 inch in diameter, it would be much closer to a $75.00 purchase. (In my own opinion of course)
