I have a tbi 350 in my '76 Volvo wagon. I'm about to change to a "flathood" frontend which (for anyone who cares) is the lower profile hood that came on the early GTs and similar sporty models. It's considerably lower than the current hood and I'm already a little tight for space. Just curious if anyone has had any luck which any lower profile air cleaner setups or cold air boxes on their TBIs. I'd love to ditch the little tin ring below the current air cleaner and find something that mounted directly to the tbi base.

Any non-drop air cleaner will allow you to get rid of the spacer (tin ring) from the factory set up. You can pick one up at any Pep Boys. Should run you $20.00 - $30.00 depending on the manufacturer and the size. If it won't fit (just put it on in the parking lot) they will let you return it or exchange it with no hassle (at least in my experience). They had a fairly low profile one in my local store a few nights ago. Seems like it was an off-brand but, it might have been an Edlebrock.

 

i used the "ring" that is on a stock TBI. it came off a GM truck. .75 inch? that raised the AC above my TBI linkage. then i used a summit chrome AC 14 inch non drop with 2.5-2.75(?) inch K-N filter element. clears my 84 vette hood by .01 inch.
