VATS

ok, so what does the vats(vehicle anti-theft system) module actually do to shut the car down....fuel/ign.,or what I know in the wiring diagram it shows pin B6 on the ecm to be the key pass vats pin...and I'm wondering if I splice it to A6 (which is 12v to ecm with ignition on)it will bi-pass the vats module...it looks that way in the wiring schamatic..(the only thing between B6 and ign.12v is the vats module).I did an engine swap...I had the whole engine/wiring harness and computer....but have no idea it the previous car had vats and mine doesnt and everything works fine except for the injectors..they do spray at start up....and if I pump the gas WOT.....I replaced the control module/ecm(swaped proms)/pick up coil, and ohm'd out all wired involved back to the ecm injector harness and all checked out fine....so...do you think B6 vats is shutting down the injectors???

there is a relay under the steering column... i forgot which on it is, but you just have to ground a grey/black wire from it to bypass it.

The VATS module puts a 5 volt 30 hz signal to the ECM. The ECM binary
has a control setting to use or ignore the VATS input. If expecting the
VATS signal, and its not present (VATS module failure, or key sensor
failure into the VATS module) NOTHING will work -- no fuel pump, no
ignition, no cranking. Fuel pump & cranking relays can be bypassed, but
without ignition, you're merely testing the Die-Hard. Since the engine starts,
look elsewhere for the problems. I think I saw a similar thread here, or
in the engine section w/in the past couple of weeks. Good luck.

ok, heres what I found out...the donor car had vats, now I'm confused...how did the engine start if I didn't even have the vats hooked up...since I don't have the key or module in the kick pannel...well...I was thinking someone had it disabled it(programed) ...well...in my efforts to get this car going....I went to autozone and bought another computer...and switched the prom...now when I crank the engine I have no injector pulse at all....but the spark plugs still spark...do you think when I pulled the prom...it reset and went back to vats "enable" ????

You can get a custom prom to disable the VATS.

If it was VATS the car wouldn't crank at all. Check your ignition control module. Actually I would replace that even if it checks out ok.

When was the last time you changed your fuel pump?

well...when I wired the 305 wiring harness up...I had to splice it to the origional v6 harness(guy who sold me the 305 cut the harness off at drivers side firewall)...so...doing that I soldered the wires to start...and control ignition right off the bat and they worked..everything in the car works except the injectors....thats why I'm thinking the computer is stopping me...the fuel pump has about 25,000 miles on it...and is a few years old...hard to rember..its A.C. Delco.
