hey..what does the escm do

the electronic spark control module.....anyone know what this unit does???.....looking at the schematic...I now realize I don't have it....although my spark plugs are sparking...and the car starts...but the injectors aren't pulsing.

The ESC interfaces the knock sensor with the ECM and also serves to help calibrate the sensors sensitivity to knock. The engine will probably still start without it, but run poorly under load due to the knock counts endlessly increasing with the signal line open. If you dont have an SES while running, then its probably still present.

Also, what do you mean by still starts, but injectors arnt pulsing?

well....up untill I swapped computers it would start right up,...run nice for a couple seconds...then die,...if I pumped the gas it would rev as long as I pedeled it...to keep it going....I wired 12v lights in with the injectors so I could tell it they were recieving pulses...and right when I'd start it...it was..they would flash...then quickly stop as the engine got going on its own with out aid from the starter....then I thought all this was a computer problem...since all my distributer modules were checking out fine.and wires to the ecm ohm'd out fine as well....so I bought a new ecm....and switched the prom to it...and plugged it in....carefully with a esd strap and using the tool,...from that moment my injectors will NOT pulse at all..even after I put the prom back in the origional computer.......I still have spark,...power to the distributer/starter/ fuel pump and everything else...now, my car was origionaly a 88 v6...and the engine and tranny/wiring harness(well most of it) and ecm was out of a 89firebird v8 that had vats....which I did'nt know till a few days ago....since the other guy cut the wiring harness off at the driverside firewall(c100 bulkhead) I had to splice/solder/heatshrink it to my existing v6 wiring harness which did not have vats...therefore by-passing the starter-fuel pump kill part of the vats....leaving me with the injector dissable function.....I think.
