Intake Install question

I am installing a new intake soon on my 92 RS and have a question regarding the gasket install... I am planning on using black RTV for the front and rear seals. I have seen posts that say to run the RTV up the sides of the heads a little bit as well. Is this over or under the intake gaskets? What RTV should I use around the water jackets? Also, when removing / tightening the bolts, should I follow a carb intake pattern?

I don't know what RTV is but I'm sure I could find out. What I do is just use thick high temp blue silicon sealant. Make it really thick and it should be fine. Torque it down just like a carb intake if you've got normal bolt pattern. If it's vortec heads it's a little different, they don't require as much torque and the pattern is a little different (duh..only 4 bolts a side).

I put a bead down across each end and maybe 1/4" up the head. The gasket then goes in place and another small dab covers the junction of the other side of the gasket and the RTV.

If your talking about between the intake and heads, most gaskets don't require sealant here. Check the directions on your gaskets. On other gaskets like the water neck and water pump, I smear a thin layer or blue RTV.

So far I've been apart of 3 perfect intake swaps. Run a THICK bead front and back, little ways up the heads too. Put a little bit around the water jackets too, not too much because the gaskets will smear what you put.
