'88 Trans Am w/ wrong heads...HELP!
Hello,
Today while dissasembling the 305 from my Trans Am (The donor car for my Volvo V8 swap) I found something weird. The heads do not have an EGR port in them. The car is TBI
and everything else is stock. The casting number on the head is 14102187. I looked it up on mortec.com and all they could tell me was '87-'91 305-no application. Why would Chevy use a head with no EGR provisions from '87 to '91? I know that Corvette L98 heads of those years had an external setup, but these are cast iron not aluminum. So basically I can't use these heads because this engine needs to be 100% smog legal, but I would like to know where the hell they came from.
Now the big question-I have a friend who has a set of 305 heads he'll let me have. They are perimeter bolt pre '86 off of a Monte Carlo SS (I think). Will these heads have all of the tapped holes I need for my serpentine belt setup and accessories? If not has anyone come up with a way to plumb an external EGR line for Vette heads with TBI? I would just leave the EGR out of it, but I'm in NJ where the emissions regulations have gotten tougher and tougher every year.
Thanks,
Matthew C. Hall
