Cam install questions (I've never done it before)
Since this swap is just starting you guys are going to get real tired of me fast
I am basically a newbie when it comes to internal engine work-I've done alot of other stuff with cars, but I've never touched a cam. Soon I'll be installing one into my 305 short block...HELP! First of all I've been looking at cams in Summit and found that Crane has their smog legal Compucams for $135, but the Summit brand cam with the same specs (not sure about lobe seperation though) for $79.99 w/ lifters and lube. Are there any major differences here or is the Summit product just as good? I've heard alot of good stuff about other products of thiers in the past.
So anyway if anyone has some tips/things to watch out for I'd greatly appreciate it...
Thanks,
Matthew C. Hall

Matt,
You should post this this on the Tech/General Engine Board, where you will likely get more advice.

MatthewH, Is your engine a 1988 or newer model, if it is the engine has a roller camshaft in it and they cost about $250.00 or more, but you can reuse the lifters if they are in good shape, I have a Crane 2020 compu-cam in my RS and it helped the power a lot.

If you can, see if you can locate a LT1 cam.
